Introduction

I'm joining the many other BSC blogs out there! Specifically I want to compare the original series with the Graphix and Netflix series. Looking at changes, what they've kept, how they modernised and how they compare to each other.

The original book series started by Ann M.Martin had 131 books adding to that Super Specials, spinoff Mystery Series, Friends Forever and other one off specials (not to mention the younger series Babysitters Little Sister) it's a lot! The first book of the original series was printed in 1986 but has had many reprinted runs, but in more recent years the Graphix and Netflix series have taken the same story and modernised in their different formats.

The Graphix series came first with 4 black & white books by Raina Telgemeier published between 2006 to 2008 each book based on one of the original members of the club; Kristy, Stacey, Mary Anne and Claudia. Some of the changes in these books must have been in part that there wasn't any plan to continue after those four books, one of the biggest change being the 2nd book is skipped over to give Claudia the more meatier story that happens in the 7th book Claudia and Mean Janine and as Dawn originally wasn't going to get a book some of her storylines being moved to those books. Then in 2015 the 4 Graphix were released in colour and new books continuing the series with new artists have been released, with the 10th book out later this year.

While there was a one season tv series released in 1990 and also a movie in 1995, these didn't follow a specific book plot. The Netflix series released in 2020 has 10 episodes each episode named after and follows basic plot of the original book series. It has been renewed for a second series, but no release date known at this time. Again in a different medium changes have been made to suit a TV series, but it has managed to keep close to essence of the books.

If you are here reading this, you are probably a BSC fan and aware of all this, but hopefully you'll enjoy my upcoming post comparing the series.
